Another one of my older drawings, this one focuses on a female dragon I made up one week after a friend gave me a challenge. I did the usual processes to refine this drawing – scanned into Photoshop and coloured the background. Why blue though? Well I tried using another scanner a few months ago and because of the scanner settings it came out looking like a blueprint. Which was cool so, I decided to keep that idea for this drawing, and others that come out like it . This one is a lot more detailed than the last scan attempt, so I am pleased with it now. Since this is more of an anatomical view and I prefer to avoid large headaches, the ‘far side’ of the body such as the other wings and legs are not visible. I mean sure it looks more 3D when you do that but I was focusing on more of a species design here. Now because everything I do is linked to my ongoing story somehow, all the information on them is going into an index that I might like someday. Although I can add a little bit here…

Heldoja is the name of the female dragon here, another one of the sky-dragons I love making ^^. She is a young adult that is still developing, as you may notice her front and back legs are quite different. This is intentional since her front legs have yet to grow the long back toe which forms a small wing spine eventually (like the back leg has done already). The claws on her front legs will grow into long talons, and her main wings will grow slightly faster until she reaches full size. How does this dragon fly? Her back legs double as secondary wings, which can rotate to work in total reverse as well. These wings are smaller than the main wings, but they work by moving below and to the side of her. This allows her main wings to work without interference, since they beat downwards at the same time (moving into the space where the back wings were before the downwards-stroke). It’s too complicated to describe everything else here so I will leave that to my story projects!

It was fun to design something different . . . and in future I will try drawing more dragons with four or six wings! I still have a lot to learn drawing shoulders but hell, it’s all practise
